Some helpful hints and addresses when researching in Cork

The Civil Registrar Office in Cork has moved from Liberty Street to Adelaide Court. Research only on Wednesdays..

To find a will belonging to an ancestor call to the Cork Court House, Probate registry, Washington Street, Cork City.

Purchase a ticket for £1 and then the attendant will take you down stairs to where the Calenders are kept. The calenders begin in 1858 and give details such as Name, address, marital status of the deceased, the dates of death and probate, names and addresses of the executers and the value of the assets of the deceased. You will then be able to look through the books to find your ansestor. Write down the details. You then write to the National Archives, Bishop Street, Dublin 8 with the correct amount of money and you'll receive a copy of your will in the post. Cost is listed in the Probate office There are two kinds of copies.A. A certified copy or B. An uncertified copy.
